Professor Ramesh Thakur, Director of the Centre for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament at the Australian National University about the recent negotiations for a treaty to ban the bomb and the refusal of nine nuclear arms states and their allies, including Australia, to attend. Ramesh Thakur says that this boycott was an open act of defiance and disrespect of a multilateral mandated disarmament process.
The talk was presented under the title The UN Conference to Ban the Bomb: An Asia-Pacific Perspective by Griffith University, the United Nations Association of Australia and Justices of the Peace Queensland in July 2017 and provides an excellent overview at the current state nuclear disarmament efforts.
